Tell us how you met and all about the proposal.
We met at a day party in Philadelphia. Eric is originally from North Carolina and was in Philly for a family reunion. He decided to go out with some of his cousins and he approached me there and the rest was history. Eric proposed during my 30th birthday party in front of all of my family and friends, as well as his family and friends who were there as well.
How did you know they were "the one?”
I knew Eric was the one when I saw the sacrifices he made for me. We had a long distance relationship for about a year; he was living in Syracuse, NY for work and I was still here in Philly. He would get off work on Saturday evenings, drive 4 1/2 hours to spend time with me until Sunday and then head back on Sunday evenings. He also constantly sent me flowers and cards in the mail which made me feel really special. He made a lot of sacrifices to make sure our love continued to grow.
I knew Jannea was the one when I saw how loving, nurturing, caring, and amazing she was as a person. I had never had that before in my life and she made me feel special. She also put in time to come visit me in Syracuse, NY some weekends when she didn't have to. She stuck by my side during our long distance relationship and I am grateful for her.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
Yes We decided to jump the broom at the end of the ceremony to show respect and honor the slaves who were not able to marry. This was important for us to do because we are grateful for those who came before us and also grateful for the many sacrifices and struggles they encountered
What was wedding shopping like for you?
Wedding shopping was a breeze I went to two places in Delaware and finally found my dream dress at Claire's Fashions and I went to Sophisticated Fit to have it altered by Pam. She did an amazing job and I had my mother there with me for support. I found my shoes at Macy's and found dresses for my bridesmaids and flower girls. I was happy with how the shopping process went.
Eric had a suit jacket and pants made by Maria who is a stylist in Miami, Fl. His process was also very smooth and stress free. He found the suits for his ring bearer and groomsman at Men's Warehouse
